In the 9th year of this successful and expanding program, we offer the health professional an evidence based, state-of-the-art update on highlighted topics in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Based on previous conference evaluations and a comprehensive needs assessment, we continue to concentrate on the disease areas of high relevance, clinical interest, advanced technology and rapid advancement. This activity is designed to change competence through didactic lectures, small group workshops, expert panel discussions and case-based learning to help meet the needs of our diverse audience. This conference will specifically address these identified educational needs and provide practitioners with state-of-the art tools to provide improved treatment options for their patients. With the recent release of preliminary data from a large controlled trial demonstrating a mortality benefit for CT screening for lung cancer, we will have an in-depth focused talk and panel discussion on this topic. We will also feature a specialized Pulmonary track with an in-depth bench to bedside focus on COPD.

This conference will provide the participant with the information and skills to:
• Put into practice an evidenced based, cost-effective strategy for CT screening of lung cancer
• Provide evidenced based pharmacologic therapy for COPD
• Adhere to evidenced based diagnosis, treatment and management strategies for asthma based on national guidelines
• Describe the basic diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension
• Evaluate and refer patients for bronchial thermoplasty for asthma
• Develop a diagnostic and treatment strategy for infections in the ICU
• Develop a comprehensive evaluation and treatment strategy for the chronic cough
• Provide advanced evaluations, treatments and referral for complex COPD patients
• Describe the recognition and treatment of interstitial lung disease
• Describe the state of the art recognition and treatment of sepsis
• Implement ultrasound and emerging technologies in the ICU
• Optimally manage sedation in the ICU
• Provide up to date basic neurosurgical ICU cases
