The São Paulo School of Advanced Science (ESPCA) is a São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) program that offers short courses on advanced science and technology subjects to contribute to the academic development of its participants and to create a magnet for world-class scientific talents in the state of São Paulo.

Teachers of the ESPCA courses, including invited foreign scientists are highly qualified scientists and leaders in their fields.

The ESPCA on Natural Products, Medicinal Chemistry and Organic Synthesis was approved as part of the Brazilian Chemical Society's celebration of the International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC 2011).

The IYC 2011 is a worldwide celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind. Under the unifying theme Chemistry - our life, our future, the goals of the IYC 2011 are to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting the world's needs, to encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry.
The ESPCA-Chemistry is also sponsored by the Brazilian Chemical Society, in collaboration with the São Paulo State University (UNESP), the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The event is coordinated by Ms. Vanderlan Bolzani, professor at UNESP.
