The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco invites you to attend the 45th Annual Advances & Controversies in Clinical Pediatrics, May 17-19, 2012, at The Westin San Francisco Market Street Hotel, 50 Third Street, San Francisco, California.

The program endeavors to provide research, academic, and clinical information in a format that emphasizes the practical application of current concepts relevant to office practice and to professionals involved in the care of children. Pediatric, Family Medicine, and Emergency Room Physicians, as well as Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners will benefit from their participation in this program. Nationally recognized guest faculty will present a series of lectures that are complemented by UCSF faculty and Bay Area experts speaking about a variety of other current and controversial pediatric issues, which will ultimately result in better care for children of all ages, infants through adolescents. This year’s course focuses on endocrinology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, neonatal neuro-critical care, and autism.
Objectives:

Upon completion of this conference, participants
should be able to:

    Evaluate and manage Vitamin D dilemmas,
    fractures in growing children, and hypercalcemia;
    Implement strategies for understanding and
    managing autism, respiratory function in
    VLBW infants, utilizing alternative and
    complementary therapies, and for supporting
    gender non-conforming youth;
    Evaluate and apply effective treatment for asthma,
    gastroesophageal reflux, hemangiomas, and
    annular lesions;
    Improve evaluation of child abuse, head trauma,
    concussion, ophthalmic injuries, and orthopedic
    problems;
    Develop strategies for diagnosis and treatment
    of hepatitis, rabies, thyroid disorders, and
    neonatal seizures;
    Understand and utilize new technologies in
    neonatal neuro-critical care – involving hypothermia,
    neuroprotection, and neuroradiology.
