Intensive Diagnostic Interviewing
Courtyard by Marriott Brookline

Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education is presenting 3 days of diagnostic interview training. This course has been developed for psychiatrists preparing to take their oral board exam. The course is also relevant for other clinicians wishing to improve interviewing and problem solving skills.

In order to provide greater flexibility for attendees the 3 days of training are offered as two closely linked sub-courses, which we advocate taking together. The schedule is as follows. On Wednesday, participants attend a series of lectures outlining skills and strategies fundamental to exam success. On the following Thursday and Friday, participants have the opportunity to practice mock exams in small groups and receive individual feedback from course faculty. Also, this course will prepare candidates for the newly introduced ABPN case vignette section, including information and sample written and video vignettes. Participation in this course is strongly encouraged for candidates preparing for Part II of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Certification Exam in Psychiatry.

Teaching methods include participation in, and observation of diagnostic interviews, live patient and videotaped examinations, and formal presentation of clinical data. Diagnostic interviewing skills are emphasized. Course conditions will simulate the setting of certification examinations in Psychiatry. Each participant will have the opportunity to do at least one case presentation based on a live patient interview and to undergo an intensive examination by one of our faculty. In most instances, it will be possible for a participant to be examined on additional private live patient interviews at an added fee (paid onsite) of $300 per interview. Thursday is a dress rehearsal for the Boards. Participants should wear professionally appropriate clothing.

In the unfortunate event you do not pass Part II of the ABPN after taking this course, you may take any of our future Part II ABPN courses presented by Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education at a 50% fee reduction.
