6th Annual Perioperative Medicine Summit 2011
The Eden Roc Hotel
4525 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, Florida
The goal of the Summit is to enable clinicians who
are actively engaged in perioperative medical care
to incorporate the latest findings from clinical
research and recommendations from evidencebased
guidelines into their practices so that they can
improve the quality and safety of their medical care.
Evidence-based lectures will be supplemented by
clinical cases and an Audience Response System
will be used for exchange of information among
faculty and attendees. A dedicated 15 minute
Q&A session after each presentation has been a
highlight of this Summit. In addition, clinical and
lab research, innovations and clinical vignettes
related to perioperative medicine will be selected
for presentation.

Internists, hospitalists, family practitioners,
anesthesiologists, physician assistants, certified
nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners and allied
health professionals engaged in management of the
perioperative patient.

As a result of participating in this activity, participants
should be able to:
• Implement effective prophylactic strategies for
venous thromboembolism (VTE)
• Recognize the importance of preventing VTE
• Appraise the latest recommendations of the
American College of Chest Physicians guidelines
including those regarding extended prophylaxis
• Identify the emerging Oral Anticoagulants in VTE
• Evaluate the thrombotic risks in surgical patients on
Warfarin and antiplatelet therapies and formulate
anticoagulation strategies to reduce complications
• Utilize current guidelines and best practices to
manage evidence-based Perioperative medical care
of surgical patients
• Discuss the importance of cardiac risk assessment
for non-cardiac surgery
• Compare the various cardiac risk indices and
• Examine the role of biomarkers for preoperative
cardiac risk stratification prior to non-cardiac surgery
• Review the current state of evidence for
Perioperative beta-blockers, statin therapy and
emerging therapies for non-cardiac surgery
