The course will focus on management of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is designed to heighten awareness of all health care professionals treating patients with HIV through a state-of-the-art review of current research results and new insights on HIV care.

Describe areas of concern and controversy in the HIV field;
Discuss the pathogenic interplay and impact of HIV and tuberculosis;
Compare and contrast current therapeutic approaches to drug resistance in patients with HIV;
Critically appraise the public health benefits associated with treating all HIV-infected people;
Review the available HIV quality measures and assess their impact on the future practice;
Describe recent progress toward development of an HIV vaccine;
Discuss the greater overall impact of vitamin D in health and disease;
Review potential new approaches to therapy.
