Welcome to our 47th Annual Internal Medicine Program, a highly practical and evidence-based update
of topics in Internal Medicine and allied specialties that are the most rapidly changing. This program is
designed to meet the needs of busy practitioners as they care for some of the most challenging cases facing
internists today. The highest rated speakers from 15 specialties will deliver state-of-the-art lectures and
workshops on topics directly chosen by community physicians and previous registrants who personally
recognize the learning needs of clinicians.
This year’s program includes talks and interactive workshops designed to sharpen diagnostic and
therapeutic skills in Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Pulmonary, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics,
Hospital Medicine, and General Internal Medicine in addition to the allied specialties of ENT, Psychiatry,
Urology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Women’s Health, Neurology, Allergy/Immunology, and Medical Ethics.
Ample time will be given so that registrants can ask questions and share clinical challenges with
the speakers.

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
1. Implement new clinical strategies in the management of osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus, opiate
management and prescribing, screening and treatment for substance abuse, and coronary artery disease.
2. Identify the controversies surrounding atherosclerosis in inflammatory diseases, the link between food
allergies and clinical presentations, evaluation of frail geriatric patients, and ethical challenges in caring
for chronically ill patients.
3. Gain expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of hematuria, abnormal liver tests, headaches, shoulder
pain, gout, dizziness, and female urinary incontinence.
4. Practice evidence-based guidelines on the annual examination, antihypertensives for optimal blood
pressure control, and evaluation of thyroid nodules.
5. Perform the interpretation of pulmonary function tests and develop skills in management of sexuality
6. Understand the top articles in hospital medicine impacting care, the latest developments and ways to
implement the Patient Centered Medical Home, the current available dermatology treatments with
lasers and light therapy, as well as the newest pharmaceuticals to hit the market that are of clinical
